So I'm home. No thanks to the airlines. The plane I was supposed to take out of Ontario was delayed
two hours because--get this--the copilot's seat wouldn't track right. So they had to haul in three different teams of mechanics to try and fix the chair, and eventually just replace the damn thing. Now, my plane was supposed to leave Ontario at 1:25 and land in Las Vegas at about 2:50. I had a flight out of Las Vegas at 3:30. No problem.
Er. The plane left the ground in Ontario at 3:30.
That's a problem.
So I went over to the desk and got switched to a flight to Phoenix and thence to Baltimore. That one went off without a hitch, and I even got Skittles out of it (I love you, Mary, by the way, so very very much). Daddy picked me up, and we went to get to my bags.
Which had been tagged for Dulles, and were still in Phoenix.
ARGH.
Fortunately they showed up at Dulles the next day, and I just went and picked them up. Then I went to the library to satisfy my craving for books, and to the grocery to satisfy my craving for turkey. Picked up some cran-raspberry juice while I was there. Then went home and read and ate and generally did absolutely nothing. That was Saturday.
Sunday I went to Eleanor's school play,
On The Town. The production was superb; the tech could have been a little quicker on the draw, and some of the actors were off-key (I'm looking at you, short guy in the sailor suit) but the stage crew was fantabulous, as were the main six actors. I'm a bit in love with the TJ orchestra now. I wish I could bribe the conductor to get them to play "Ashoken Farewell." The show itself was a touch disorganized, definitely not one of Bernstein's better works, but there were some lovely songs, and overall it was well worth going to. I owe El the cost of a ticket.
Sunday I also went to see Hot Fuzz with my mom. That movie is
silly. Silly silliness with an extra side of silly. I loved it. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are so damn cute together (and
yes I ship Nick/Danny. Who in their right mind seeing that movie doesn't?) and wtf that's Bill Nighy, and ftw that's TIMOTHY DALTON. Whoa. Also, that beautiful moment near the end where
( cut for spoilers ) Beautiful.
Thus far this week I have read
Haroun and the Sea of Stories, Cannery Row, The Hourglass, a book of short stories about Renaissance Faires and a couple of writing books. I have much more reading time when there isn't other shit to do.
I'm just generally very relaxed right now. Going to dinner with my dad in a bit, getting some fic for The Dresden Files beta'd. It's all good.
